Sooooo… you are soooo going to hate me. Why? because looking at this just added ten pounds. SO. MUCH. GOODNESS. But soooo bad for you. But hey, it’s Christmas so whaddayagonna do? Make everybody else fat too, that’s what. Continue reading
If you don’t know by now, I love me some caramel. This is one of the easiest caramel sauce recipes I’ve ever run across.. Continue reading
Several people in my family really REALLY like vanilla cake with whipped cream and strawberries.. not SHORTCAKE .. true shortcake is an entirely different thing.. more like a biscuit. I made this one for my niece Madeleine’s birthday this year. I will say this.. I used some brown sugar in it as I was short on white… (half white half brown…) and it did lend a bit of a caramely taste, but it’s prettier if you use all white. Continue reading
When I met my (former) husband, he mentioned his love of the tarts, so I made attempts to make them the way he liked them.
That said, I have not made butter tarts for years. I used to make them quite often. However, once the ex and I split, I just really didn’t bake as often and really had no reason to make them… Continue reading
So the beautiful and talented Katy Warren is not a big cake fan. She likes pie. LOVES pie. For her birthday, I wasn’t sure what kind of pie to make… so I made two. Also, I use the word “so” a lot.
I wasn’t sure what kind to make.. her favourite is Raspberry Pie, but felt it was the wrong time of year to make it (her birthday is in February) hence I made two pies. Here’s number one…. Continue reading
I remember putting it aside as it originally had butterscotch chips in it and my husband at the time (that makes it sound like I’ve had a bunch, doesn’t it? All Liz Taylor like and stuff. Hmm I doubt she baked much…) ANYWAY, he loves butterscotch. Can’t remember if he liked these cookies though… Continue reading
I know you’re thinking that this can’t possibly be delicious, but it is… I’ve included this as part of my “posting things chocolate for Valentine’s Day”. This cake works for vegans and non-vegans alike…
Here’s what happens in my family for birthday celebrations, etc..
I have two younger sisters and we’re all good cooks. So when we have a family dinner, we split the duties – my sisters, my mom and myself all contribute toward the meal (except Mother’s Day where we don’t have to do stuff… or at least not as much…). Continue reading
About 15 years ago (maybe less, like I can remember that far back…) my Aunt Laura came to visit and brought a binder for each of us – me, each of my sisters, and my mother and father. In each binder was some family history.. stories of how my grandparents met (by mail – story later…) some history of our family members along with some copies of old photos (some a little fuzzy..) And my Grandmother’s recipes. The ones my Aunt had, any way. When my Grandmother (Bernice in English, Bronislava or Brona in Lithuanian and Polish) had lived in California, my Aunt wrote down as many recipes as she could.
As I’ve said, I’ve decided to recreate my Grandmother’s recipes. Except the headcheese. Nobody wants that….
I actually had the recipe memorized and would make these often to share with my friends. I got the recipe from an old cookbook that my mother received as a wedding present, I think from my Aunt Laura. I actually still have it somewhere…..the cover is long gone and it has a piece of cardboard wrapped in shelf paper holding it together. Bah, now I have to go find it….. okay! Found it!
