Caramel Sauce

If you don’t know by now, I love me some caramel. This is one of the easiest caramel sauce recipes I’ve ever run across..

  • 1 packed cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or half and half (I have made this with skim and homogenized milk and turns out well each time)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Put sugar, milk, butter and salt in pot on stove over medium-low heat.  Stir mixture until it starts to bubble – cook for 5 minutes while stirring until mixture thickens. (About 7 minutes in total… if you cook it TOO long it will turn into a fudge…) Add vanilla and cook another minute to thicken further.. remove from heat and let cool.  Store in jar in fridge for ice cream or whenever you need some caramel!
